When we ask you to tailor your clothes, we want you to save your money while enjoying the same quality of garments as a readymade branded suit or dress. However, it is uncommon among average people to rely on bespoke tailoring and alterations services instead of proven brands who always have high-quality products to offer.
Furthermore, there are lots of misconceptions about the tailoring which is pretty understandable. There are always some misunderstandings about things that aren’t as mainstream as others. Among women, there is even less of a trend to have their clothes tailored, you see frequent tailoring shops for Men’s suits but women’s dresses are always preferred to be branded.
Well, for the benefit of our readers, we have decided to tackle some of these misconceptions head on. Such as, the following:
“Few Women Tailor Their Clothes”
Alterations have the power to take a ho-hum garment and transform it into something that looks and feels amazing. We have learned that very few women tailor their clothes, with the exception of hemming trousers and altering suits and formal wear. While some clients merely needed some education on proper fit principles, others require an attitude adjustment in order to embrace the concept of tailoring. In fact, we were often able to salvage many pieces by simple “tweaks” that didn’t break the bank.
“But Alterations are Too Expensive!”
In this time of “fast fashion” and disposable clothing, many women just don’t want to invest the money to ensure their clothing fits them impeccably. They reason is that if they paid £20 for a garment, why should they spend another £10 altering it to fit their body perfectly?
As many of us are working towards shopping more ethically and sustainably, alterations can be a way of extending our wardrobes to make what we have work for us rather than running out to buy more. Of course, it’s an easier “sell” if we’re focusing on quality over quantity when shopping. However, those of us who enjoy thrift and consignment shopping know that quality doesn’t always have to come with a large price tag.
“Is Modernising Your Clothes through Tailoring Possible”
I definitely recommend taking the time and spending the money to tailor your clothes so they fit you like a glove. Although the proper fit is the primary reason for tailoring, alterations can also help to modernise your clothes or update them to line up with your evolving sense of style. As one example, if someone preferred trouser silhouette changes, they would narrow many of their wide-legged pants to create a straight-legged look. Also shortening some of their skirts to knee-length after realising that length is what’s most flattering for their figure.
There are lots of other benefits to having your clothes tailored in a customised manner such as your own choice of design and fabric, your personal fashion choices, the possibility of reworked garments in case any modification is required among much more.
